Memorial Held for Cyclist Who Died After Crash Caused by Pothole on Pretty Brook Road

A local cyclist has passed away following serious injuries sustained in a crash on Pretty Brook Road on Sunday, May 17. The cyclist was Thejaswi Gurumurthy, 51, of West Windsor, who was an accomplished Ironman, runner, swimmer, mountaineer, and biker. He sustained severe internal injuries while on a training ride with friends, after hitting a pothole near the intersection of Pretty Brook Road and Pheasant Hill Road (map).

A group of friends gathered at the site in tribute to Mr. Gurumuphy. One of them posted photos of the pothole to Access Princeton, with an urgent request to have it filled in, noting that it represented “a serious safety hazard for cyclists and motorists alike”. As of 3:14 PM today, the issue was marked as ‘resolved’ by Princeton Public Works.

Issues with potholes and poorly-maintained road surface remain an ongoing concern for local cyclists, especially when riding in the dark. Pretty Brook Road is in poor condition, but even roads in central Princeton such as Franklin Avenue are in very bad shape, adding to the challenge of riding a bicycle in town.
