Princeton Downtown Business Association Wins State Grant for Soccer World Cup Watch Parties

Princeton’s downtown business association, ‘Experience Princeton‘ has received a state grant to support planned events surrounding the FIFA Soccer World Cup this summer. Experience Princeton was one of a number of groups around the state to win one of the awards, which were announced this week by NJ Governor Mikie Sherrill.

In particular, the grant was awarded for a specific event series, called “Welcome World! Princeton’s Global Food Festival & World Cup Watch Parties 2026”. The events will take place on Saturday June 20, Sunday June 28, and Tuesday, July 14. More details are not available at this time. The series is not currently listed on the ‘Experience Princeton’ events calendar. We reached out to Experience Princeton for more information, but did not receive a reply at the time of writing.

Earlier this year, Governor Sherrill canceled a planned World Cup ‘fan festival’ that was supposed to take place in Liberty State Park in June and July. That created an opportunity to fund other, smaller events that are taking place around the state. It seems that soccer fans in Princeton will be beneficiaries, through the ‘Welcome World!’ watch parties. And even people who don’t like soccer can enjoy whatever ‘global’ food offerings are available. We look forward to more details becoming available and will update at that time!
