Mercer County Planners Hosting Outreach Meeting Wednesday Night to Get Public Input About Transportation and Mobility

Mercer County planning staff want to get public input on transportation goals

Mercer County is updating the Mobility Element of the County Master Plan. As part of the effort, County planning staff are holding an outreach session by Zoom this Wednesday evening, to give members of the public a chance to provide feedback. The goal of the the Mobility Element update will be to “provide guidance to the County for a long-term and holistic approach toward transportation planning policies and strategies for an efficient, safe, accessible, and sustainable multimodal system that supports transportation needs and economic vitality.”

Last year, Mercer County adopted a ‘Vision Zero’ policy, which aims to eliminate all traffic-related deaths and serious injuries on county roadways over the coming decades. The Mobility Element has not been updated since 2010, however. The meeting on Wednesday night will give county staff a chance to describe the process for updating it, which has been called ‘Mercer In Motion’. It will be an opportunity to tell the County about roadway issues, safety, congestion, transit, trucks, biking, walking, trails, etc.

Mercer County is only responsible for a small number of roads in Princeton. These include parts of Elm Road, River Road, Rosedale Road, Washington Road, and South Harrison Street (full list here). In recent years, Mercer County has added bike lanes on Elm road and Washington Road. The ‘Mercer In Motion’ plan update is intended to be inclusive of bicycling and pedestrians.

The meeting details are as follows:

Mercer County has also launched a website about the ‘Mercer In Motion’ project, which provides information and includes an interactive map where residents can pinpoint points of interest or concern regarding “roadways, safety, congestion, transit, freight, biking, walking, trail, or ‘other'”. At the time of writing, nobody has added any points of interest in the town of Princeton.
