The “Graduate Hotel” is finally open. As reported last night at “Tap Into Princeton“, the long-anticipated new hotel quietly opened on Thursday, August 1. The Graduate Hotel is located at an ultra-walkable location in downtown Princeton (10 Chambers Street, map), across the street from Princeton University campus and one block away from Palmer Square.

The first site plan for the Graduate Hotel was submitted in 2020 (Report: “Renderings of Proposed 20 Nassau Street Hotel in Downtown Princeton“). The lengthy construction made members of the town council irate, because Chambers Street was partially closed to traffic for an extended period. Several businesses were also displaced during construction. But now that the hotel is open, it’s clear that it is going to be a landmark in the town. The fittings are unique and reflect the town’s history and character. The bar staff are knowledgeable and vivacious. The name of every cocktail contains a subtle reference to some aspect of Princeton history. Some of these cocktails were tested as part of the thorough research for this article and they are extremely good!

Food is also available, with a menu of hot food and snacks. The tables are in cozy booths.

The Graduate Hotel is not affiliated with Princeton University, but there is a strong ‘college’ theme. The ground floor lounge feels a lot like an old-school college library. There are plenty of references to Princeton University eating clubs, tigers, and snazzy jackets on the walls. Even the wallpaper is said to be inspired by Princeton.

It’s not often that a new bar opens in Princeton, and now we have two new ones this summer. (At the end of June, we reported on the opening of the new ‘Triumph Brewing Company’; report: “New “Triumph Brewing Company” Open At Last In Palmer Square In Princeton“). That’s two more great reasons to spend time in downtown Princeton. Rooms are also available, of course, starting at $265 / night + plus taxes.
