A new group bike ride is happening in Princeton, starting this coming Friday, July 26. The ‘Princeton Critical Mass’ ride is part of a global movement of similar rides that have happened in dozens of cities, where people ride bikes together for fun and for safety. They usually do not have a designated leader, and the intention is that riders will have ‘safety in numbers’ by riding as a group.
Details of the ride are as follows:
Meet at the Princeton Public Library – Hinds Plaza
6:30PM meet up
7:00PM roll out
The intention is for riders to meet at the same time on the final Friday of the month going forward. A route for the ride has been posted to Strava. It is about 4 miles long, starting on Witherspoon Street, running through residential areas past Princeton High School, and then back to Princeton Public Library along Nassau Street. The pace will be slow enough for all ages and all riders.
In previous years, Princeton has seen organized bike rides including “The Mayor’s Bike Ride” with former Mayor Liz Lempert, the “Fancy Women Bike Ride” in 2022, and various rides out of Kopp’s Cycle and Jay’s Cycle Shop. Until now, however, there has been no regular ride that is open to all riders.
